Denise Frey is a versatile musician who found her way to music via a circuitous route. Originally planning to study acting and jazz, she ultimately settled on classical saxophone. Her passion for improvisation led her to create her own music. Later, she discovered the potential of electronic music and self-taught herself how to work with various effects devices and machines. Live, she combines saxophone, Akai MPC, and effects devices to create electroacoustic performances that range from downtempo ambient to techno. In addition to her solo performances, she is active in the ND Duo and teaches saxophone, flute, improvisation, and music production.
