Finn Binias
Connection points, movement, somatics, object manipulation
Hey, I'm Finn, 23 years old, and from Frankfurt. I've been passionate about movement my entire life. You could say I can't live without it. I've studied many disciplines over the years: boxing, gymnastics, capoeira, ballroom dancing, and calisthenics. A few years ago, I came across Movement and realized that it's exactly what I've been doing all along: combining many disciplines.
Connection Points
How much time do we spend in our training focusing on individual muscles, like in the gym, large movement patterns, like in yoga, or specific movement chains, like in dance? In this workshop, we'll focus on the areas that hold our body together—body parts we rarely focus on in our training. These include, for example, our hands, feet, spine, or eyes.
Movement
Movement is so diverse that I couldn't possibly teach you everything there is to discover in this workshop. Even if we spent years working on it, we would only scratch the surface. The goal of this workshop is to show you the incredible abilities your body is capable of, to discover new perceptions, and to show you new worlds. We'll crawl, roll, work with a partner, have lots of fun, and—hopefully—take something away with us that will inspire you even beyond the workshop.
Somatics
We often focus primarily on our external appearance: How do I look? Or how does my movement appear from the outside? Is my back straight? But there is another, perhaps even more important perspective – the internal perspective. What do you feel when you close your eyes? How does the movement feel? In this workshop, I will show you my own mix of different exercises that will help you become more aware of your body. These approaches are inspired by the work of Moshe Feldenkrais. We will also work with breathing exercises through which you learn to regulate your mind and your state of relaxation simply through your breath.
Object manipulation
Juggling, balancing a stick, or swinging a baton – all these activities have something in common: we're moving an object that's not part of our body. In this workshop, I'll show you an approach to learning these skills and moving with objects creatively and playfully. Anyone who can hold a tennis ball can participate. Object manipulation improves our coordination, our reflexes, our body awareness, and, above all, it's fun.
