Movement & Playfulness inspired by Capoeira
Sami Hamed (aka Popô)
Movement & Playfulness inspired by Capoeira
I have practiced the Afro-Brazilian art of Capoeira for 27 years and have been teaching in Frankfurt since 2012. My work connects movement, music and shared play within a clearly structured and physically sound training approach.
As a certified fitness trainer, I focus on solid foundations, healthy and fluid weight shifting, mobility and coordination. Elements such as hand balancing, floor work and soft acrobatics integrate organically
into the practice. In my workshops, movement emerges through the rhythm of music and interaction with others.
Participants develop strength, control and responsiveness and experience how stability can
transform into lightness and flow.
Conquering & Surrendering
Space In this workshop we playfully explore the conscious act of taking and surrendering space.
Movement emerges through interaction in pairs and within the group. We practice entering space with clarity, showing presence and taking initiative. At the same time, we train how to release space, receive impulses and allow dynamics to unfold. From this, engaging movement dialogues
develop. This workshop is based on more than 25 years of experience in the Afro-Brazilian art of Capoeira. Through structured partner exercises and group formats, moments of tension, proximity, distance and unexpected directional changes arise. This game is not about winning, but about creating vivid and interesting situations by sharing space together.
You will develop:
● spatial clarity and orientation
● a sense of timing and dynamics
● confidence in direct interaction
● presence while moving with others
Open to all levels.
“Ginga” – Flow through
Rhythm and Conscious Weight Shifting
Ginga describes the light, rhythmic way of moving through space in Capoeira. In this workshop, Ginga stands at the center as a movement principle, complemented by the concept of “grounding”. From this connection arise quick reactions, clear changes of direction, and controlled transitions between upright movement, low floor work, rolls, and simple acrobatic elements. We work with clear forms of weight shifting and connect them to music. Step patterns, directional changes, and smooth transitions are developed into continuous movement sequences. Ginga connects areas that are often trained separately and creates continuous flow between dance, floor work, and soft acrobatics. The workshop is based on more than 25 years of experience in the Afro-Brazilian art of Capoeira.
You will develop:
● a clear understanding of weight shifting
● stable and healthy floor work
● improved responsiveness and dynamic movement
● greater ease in shifting between stability and flow
